Pen 11X17 bristol board

From a design I did in photoshop some years ago. I thought it would look good in pen and ink, and I think it turned out pretty well.

It was intimidating drawing the crossed hammers logo without using a reference (I decided not to look at any of the original material and work from my head instead) but it was also liberating, because I wasn't trying to replicate someone else's work but redrawing it for myself. The end result is still pretty similar to the original logo, but at least I know that I drew it without training wheels.

Same with the screaming face. I mean, I know what that original watercolor face looked like, but it was nice just drawing my own interpretation of it. Since I wasn't looking at the original painting, I didn't feel like it was wrong if it wasn't identical. I know it seems like a silly thing to be proud of, but I do so many portraits based on photographs where I'm trying so hard to accurately replicate something that I'm looking at, so it's freeing to be able to just wing it and be happy with the fact that it doesn't look like another picture.

I might try and color it in photoshop and see if I can make it into a proper poster.
